VELFAC Window Won’t Lock?

Do not force the handle. A window that will not lock may be obstructed, out of alignment, affected by a restrictor, or have worn hardware. Work through these checks in order.

1. Check for an obstruction

Look around the full opening and remove debris, trapped curtains, loose objects or anything caught between the moving sash and the fixed timber frame. Check the external side as well as the room side.

2. Check the restrictor

Where a restrictor is fitted, make sure it is correctly engaged and that no debris is blocking the sliding arm. A restrictor that is partly engaged can prevent the sash from returning fully to the frame.

3. Gently support the sash

With the window nearly closed, apply light support to the opening edge while turning the handle. If the window locks only when lifted or pushed into position, this suggests alignment or adjustment is required. Do not use excessive pressure.

4. Observe the handle

A stiff handle may indicate resistance elsewhere in the locking system. A loose, spinning or disconnected handle may indicate a handle or internal mechanism fault. Stop if the handle feels likely to break.

5. Inspect visible fittings

Check for loose screws, obvious damage, displaced keeps, bent components or heavy contamination. Moving ironmongery should be kept clean and serviced, but friction stays must not be lubricated.

When to call a professional

Arrange professional help when the sash has dropped, the locking points do not align, the handle is damaged, the mechanism appears disconnected, or the window remains difficult to operate after basic checks. Continued force can damage the handle, espagnolette mechanism or frame.
